October 13 – October 31

This list goes out to all the “getting early to the show to catch the opener” folks 🤘🏽

Nike — Shygirl

Shygirl opened for Troye Sivan and Charli XCX on the SWEAT Tour. This was an immediate add to my “loud girls” playlist

Problem Solver — slimdan

slimdan opened up for Remi Wolf on at the Greek Theatre and caught the whole audience by surprise with his hilariously relatable lyrics.

P.S. Remi puts on an energetic performance backed by one of the tightest backup band I’ve ever had the pleasure to watch live. Check her out if she comes through your town!

Agradezco — Xuqutopi & Lenka Lov

Imagine you’re on a PNW island in the start of fall with barely no cell signal doing yoga at 6:30 am in a space called “The Sanctuary” led by an incredible indigenous orator while this song plays in the background

Nomalizo — Letta Mbulu

Now, for this one, you’re trying to heal your spirit with some tacos after the Dodgers lose game 4 of the World Series

Not Like Us — Kendrick Lamar

This one is because I’m petty

It didn’t matter that we lost game 4 because here I am at the Dodger Parade in DTLA

Ain’t Got Nothing On You — Leon Bridges

No-skip album. The album opener “When a Man Cries” made me drop everything I was doing, turn the lights down low, and just vibe

OJALÁ — Becky G

This track represents a great hybrid of American and Mexican country music. I wonder if she’ll ever do a crossover

I Will Be Here — Trophy Wife

Is it just me or am I hearing a little Cranberries influence in the vocals?

Distant Dummer — Christopher Owens

“Distant Drummer” captures the breadth of experience in instrumentation and vocals across the entire album. If you like this one, the whole album is a must listen

Judge Judy — Tyler, The Creator

In a surprise album drop this past week, Tyler shows off his “feminist” side

Sanitized — Katie Gavin

I recently watched I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997) for the first time (on VHS!!) and “Sanitized” feels sooo of that era

SHOOT THE MESSENGER — BLACKSTARKIDS

TBH, the album was a lil flop for me but this was the standout track

Every Day’s A Lesson In Humility — Suki Waterhouse, Belle and Sebastian

I’m a new Suki listener and a year late to this track. I just know if I hear this live, I’m gonna break my neck and pull a muscle dancing to it

Cliff — Låpsley

Speaking of being late to the party…this one is from 2016. The vocals reminded me of “Gravediggress” by CocoRosie (2013) and I immediately was in the vibe
